How to Prepare for an FCE - Functional Capacity Evaluation

An FCE is a Functional Capacity Examination, an exam where the physician/therapist will test a number of elements of your physical strength necessary to perform your job, including the following: Pulling, pushing, lifting, and carrying materials. Squatting, walking, kneeling, reaching, standing, balancing, crawling, bending, Preparing will include the following: Dress comfortably in gym type clothing and comfortable shoes. Be prepared to complete questionnaires in reference to the injury. Be prepared to answer in detail information related to the injury and prior treatment. Be prepared to be physical in lifting, movement also includes a physical therapy evaluation for flexibility range of motion and strength and endurance.

How to Prepare for a Psychological Diagnostic Evaluation?

The diagnostic interview will be conducted by a licensed mental health provider. Prior to the interview a questionnaire will need to be completed along with informative forms. The interview will take place by televideo either at our facility or in the privacy of your own home by either a cell phone, computer or tablet.

What is the Purpose of an FCE and a Psychological Diagnostic Evaluation ?

The purpose of completing an FCE and Psychological screening is to determine what type of program eligibility is met. You would have had to complete lower level care including physical therapy and/or individual counseling. The program types are listed below :

What is a Work Conditioning Program ?

Work Conditioning Program is a specific and functional program designed to help injured workers return to work and improve their abilities. In a work conditioning program, injured workers are assessed in regards to job demands, conditioning, and safety with job tasks. Injured workers can expect to participate in comprehensive baseline testing to determine current capabilities of the job demands. This is what is measured against for progress. A specialist builds a highly structured, goal-oriented work conditioning program for each injured worker’s job demands and current deficits. This is designed to bridge the gap between acute care and return to work without restrictions, improving strength, endurance, and positional tolerance necessary for a sustainable and efficient return to work.

What is a Work Hardening Program ?

Work Hardening Program is a highly structured, intensive, time-limited interdisciplinary treatment program designed to help a patient return to work. The program is specific for the job to which the patient is returning. The program typically strives to increase aerobic capacity, muscle strength, endurance, range of motion and coordination. Specific activities simulates the patient’s chosen vocation is included in treatment. EcCare’s Work Hardening Program incorporates specialized equipment, hand tools, driving simulator and various work station to facilities this process. Psychological treatment is also included to address any psycho-social barriers that might interfere with returning to work.

What is a Chronic Pain Program ?

Chronic Pain Program is a highly structured, intensive, time-limited treatment program designed to help a patient obtain the highest level of individual, social, and occupational functioning possible. This is accomplished through the use of an interdisciplinary treatment team which brings to bear a collaborative effort to address the myriad of factors contributing to the patient’s pain perceptions and response.

The program requires the patient to take an active role in his or her own treatment. Through a variety of modalities which may include physical therapy, biofeedback, family therapy, hypnotherapy, educational classes, psychological counseling, vocational counseling and medical management, patients are taught to take responsibility for the management of their pain. This involves increasing the patient’s pain threshold, reducing their focus on pain and stress reduction skills, and helping them increases their activity level.

What is a Medical Rehabilitation Program ?

Medical Rehabilitation Program is an individualized, coordinated, outcomes-focused program that promotes early intervention and optimizes the activities and participation of the persons served. The program, through its scope statement, defines the characteristics of the persons it serves. An assessment process initiates the individualized treatment approach for each person served, which includes making medical support available based on need. The program includes direct service provision, education, and consultations to achieve the predicted outcomes of the person served.
